When you format your hard drive all programs are removed so that you will not have a floppy or disk drive. However using Windows installation package you will be able to boot your computer from your CD drive and reinstall Windows and partition your Hard drive if you want. When you reinstall Windows it will recognize your floppy and disk drive and install drivers for them.

Your disk drive wont be deleted as you would be using the same drive to run the Windows XP installation CD on your machine. After you have finished reformatting, you will have to install drivers for the floppy drive. If you wish, you can back up most of your data before you reformat, that'll save your data otherwise you'll lose all your work. you can partition your hard drive as well and run both operating systems on your machine, this would require more hard disk space. Either ways, your Disk drive will not be deleted, so dont worry.

if you say nothing will be on it, then it will get deleted, obviously. floppy drive doesn't get deleted (floppy disks do)

If you wipe your hard drive and reinstall windows, it will see your drives and assign them at that time. Make sure to back up, though!

When you load Windows XP, it will recognize your floppy and CD. No problem. Make sure you back up your important files before you load the XP.

You are formatting and reinstalling your HDD Make sure you first back up all the data you have on that drive I always use a secondary drive for all my data AND programs, leaving the C: drive strictly for the operation system. Nothing happens to the floppy drive or DVD/CD drive. If this is your old computer, first check whether you have enough horsepower to manage XP. And if you find that you do, have a very minimum of 512MB RAM
