    DirectX is the graphics API in it's entirety. DirectDraw is a rendering mode that DirectX uses.

    DirectDraw is a part of DirectX. It deals with 2d drawing and such. It handles bitmap functionality and is also the primary renderer. It was deprecated after Direct7 though. Other components of DirectX: Direct3D DIrectSound DirectPlay
