Do I need a disc to re-format and will it get rid of a hacker if I do?

   Might temporarily get rid of hacker, but if the same security hole/procedure is still present, they might just get back in. Try running some security software too. And set up at least windows firewall before physically connecting to network.

   Re-formatting would help if you have a virus or trojan on you computer. But if someone is hacking in you need to set up a firewall to keep them out. I think zone alarm has free firewall software you can download if not it is pretty inexpensive. A router would do the trick too.
