I'm a web developer. What can I do to get more money?

2006-08-14 18:47:49, Category: Programming & Design
I'm felling really down because of my family finnancial status. Right now I work for a company that makes web sites for high end companies at the U.S.; I'm really happy there but with my family problems my salary is just not enough. Just wondering if anyone out there has any advice or idea for me. Thanks in advance. By the way, I live and work at Colombia.

If you do have a computer and internet at home, these are my suggestions. Making a website is probally a strong point of yours. I would suggest making a website for yourself and: 1. Use google adsense. Say we both have a site. You sign up for adsense so you can put their ads on google and others sites. You get, say, $0.10 per click. Someone goes on your site and clicks one of the ads. Google gives you $0.10. I have also signed up for google adsense, but this time I want advertising for my site. That ad that that person clicked was for my site. I pay google $0.20. Everyone is happy. Google earns $0.10, you earn $0.10, and I get a hit for my website. Other companys also offer this. That is option number one. 2. Sell advertisment space on your site directly to people. You can charge a little bit more, since there is no middleman(google). Say you charge $0.15 a click. That's cheaper than they have to pay for the adsense(above) and you get more money. Again, you both are happy. 3. Sell a product. Probally the most profitable way, but you have to have a product to sell. 4. Sell a webdesign service. Who says you can't own your own webdesign company as well as another one? This will probally mean lots of work at home, plus a cut in free time, but if you grow and expand, you might be able to hire people to help you. You could do all of them together if you're really smart. I would suggest that you do one of the last two, and when you get going good, include the first two. You will need to find a host. Just search on google. There are dozens of host listings, and thousands of hosts. I would also suggest registering a domain name. There are guides on this as well. My favorite is: http://2createawebsite.com/ I know this because I'm a web designer/programmer and a website owner! wierdo

First, I would review your deal with your employer. You might have a Don't Compete clause, which means that you can't work in the same business against them. Good luck

Start doing some freelance work on the side Check out some of the freelance sites, register and post your profile and experience Look for another job. Depending on your skillset you can easily increase your salary...assuming you get hired by a good company Switch careers. Consider asking for a raise. Talk to your manager about other opportunities within the company that pays more. Start your own business. I promise you will not regret it

Make a couple of solid rock samples of webpages. Distribute them among your friends, relatives and whoever you know as free samples. advetise them on the internet. Include your contact and what you do (web developer). You may offer your samples to smaller companies... Throw them tons of bonuses or services for more attraction. But make sure you deliver them!
