I have windows xp and an update was going normal until I get this scan message saying I need a remo

My windows xp was pre-installed so I have no removable disk. It also says insert 'scan' disk & click ok. I also get a message saying error 1706 no valid source could be found for product scan. The windows installer cannot continue. Can someone please help me out?

    You have a removable CD. Put your original Windows XP CD in it. Before you do that: Scandisk is an operation the windows performs. Change the drive to scan to C: yours: Grumpy

    It sounds like you might need a new Windows XP disk.
