How do you put an icon in the navigation bar?

I assume it's a tag in the head. Anybody know the tag and syntax? What format must the icon be in? (jpg etc.) What size? (in px)

    NO tag. If u will put an icon (fav.ico must be its name) , this image will be show on address bar :D.

    the first post is correct, locate the file in the root folder of the site.
