Help! How do I stop an unwanted PC fax machine from automatically answering my phone.?

2006-08-12 00:07:30, Category: Programming & Design
Every time the phone rings, even before I had my all in one installed, my PC automatically attempts to receive a fax on the second ring. All incoming callers get a fax screeching in their ear. I have looked under program uninstall, printers and faxes, and phones and modems and have found no way to stop this from happening. Any suggestions?

Usually there is a setting to answer after a certain number of rings if all else fails disconnect it!

Open up your fax program, I don't remember which, but look under edit, tools,...etc. and look for "configure fax". You should have the option to set the amount of rings it takes before the fax answers. What I do is turn the fax onto Manual Answer. I have people call me prior to faxing so that I can do it manually. But, I have also turned in onto automatic, after 4 rings, to answer. This way I can check caller id first and have time to answer if I needed to. Hope this helps some. But definitely open your fax program and look through the menu. It's in there. Good Luck

Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Right Click on Fax, then Select Properties. Next Click on the Device Tab and Click on your Modem to highlight it. Then Click on Properties. Next Click on the Receive Tab and Change the Number of Rings Setting to what you want or Remove the Check from Enable Device to Receive.

The setting for this is probably in the fax software which you would have installed with the all-in-one. Although it usually doesn't activate the fax unless the software is actively running, you need to bring up the program and go to the fax settings to disable this.

This is the handywork of Microsoft...Windows has a built in Fax Service to send and recive Faxes...since I don't have a Fax Machine I use this to send and recive Faxes...and by default it is supposed to pick up by second ring, since you alredy have an All-in-one you can remove the application by going to Start> Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs> Click on the "Add/Remove Windows Components" button> and uncheck the box for "Fax services"> Then Click "Next"> After it's done deleting, hit finish.
