In Win XP you can set up a password for your login identity. Then in your folder's properties window you can change the setting on the privacy and security tab.

A good way to do it is to get an archival program (like WinRar, Winzip, etc) put those files/folders into the archive and put a password on it. Then delete the originals and viola...protection. You can also download a free program called TrueCrypt. TrueCrypt creates a fake harddrive and it allows you to put files and whatnot in it. It encrypts it and allows you put a password on it. TrueCrypt is found at http://www.truecrypt.org/

Go into the file itself by opening. Click Tools Click Options. In the options dialog box, click the Security tab. In that box, you can set a password but you MUST remember it othewise you will never see that file opened again.

You can do 2 things, if you use XP learn how to make different user accounts, and give your son an account with limited privileges. You can also password protect or hide your folders, right click on the folder or file and select Properties, look at the options. I recommend you get a good book like XP for Dummies and work your way through it, there's loads of settings you can change to make your pc run better and more safely.
