2006-08-10 11:33:20, Category: Programming & Design
I have Windows 2000 Prof. on my computer and it has been corrupted to sh*t with spyware. I have tried all of the anti-spyware/adaware type of software but it isn't getting rid of it all. I bought Windows XP Pof. w/SP2. If I down load this operating system will it start my computer off fresh? THANKS! it is a Full Package OS. and could anyone go into some detail about how to fdisk the hard drive? I really appreciate your help.

Yes, as long as your system can handle the upgrade. Avoid clicking on random things and opening random emails and you will be fine.

Yes, absoultely. When you install, though, be sure to format the drive first. This will completely remove everything currently on the drive, then you will install fresh. Good Luck!

I love the way you worded that question! The answer is yes, but you have to do a fresh load including a hard drive format. Don't try doing an upgrade, because you'll just pull the old spyware problems forward. THEN, after you're reloaded your OS, do the following... * Install a good antivirus application * Download and install the Microsoft Windows Defender app or some other Spyware Removal application that is trustworthy. * Use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. * Don't download screen savers / desktop backgrounds / free this'n'that' applications that you don't need. THATS where this stuff is coming from! Well, that and P2P networks. http://spyware-protection.nontoxic-internet.com I have 5 computer in my home and we have NO problem with spyware and adware.

No, not unless you wipe your hard drive first. Be sure to check if you are buying an UPGRADE OS or a FULL package! In the case you described it would be best to fdisk your hard drive and then install a fresh OS. This option is usually offered during the install.

You might want to get rid of Windows 2000 prof. It'll still take up space on your desktop. If you want to start off fresh, format all your drives. Then install the new OS.
