I need a program?

I need a free image cruncher program for free so I can make my banners. I can make really neat lookin banners but then I am stuck with these really simple (and boring) banners cause I don't have something to lessen the size of the file. Can someone provide me with a link of a free image cruncher program? Be gladly appreciated. I use psp 9 and animation shop but I need a program that lessens the file size of my banners thanks!

    it would be easy to do that with the GIMP. It doesn't "crunch" images but you can resize them and save them as JPG with high compression....

    Paint can do that (if you have an ounce of talent) and so can the gimp ( http://www.gimp.org ).

    There is a great freeware program that will allow you to re-size or crop any image to any reasonable size. The program is named: PHOTOFILTRE and can be found at http://www.photofiltre.com. Even though the freeware version doesn't contain layering, There are ways to work around this. The program is packed with features and doesn't take up all kinds of memory. Also, it is relatively easy to use.
