I think you need to reconsider what it is you are advertising. If this is a personal website that is intended for friends that already know you, then maybe you should consider catering to them in such a way that your inside jokes are out there, or add a comment area for them to yack back at you.
If this is actually intended for you to get a date or meet people that you want to make a good impression on, then less is more. Put your best work out there and if you are unsure about something belonging on your site, put it into an unlinked place and email your friends, parents, or other people you respect the opinions of before you decide on whether you want it up there. Get someone else to look at it and by no means feel pressured to add every little detail about yourself just because that's all the rage on myspace or some other prepackaged website.
Keep it simple, but make it your own.
Good luck.

Well, try links to your favourite sports, bands and so on. Link them to pictures - e.g. if you're into, say, a particular R & B girl band, get a photo of them on the page and link to their official website.
If you have poetry you want to share, you can create a link to a page displaying that, too. Same goes for photos of your home, family, folks, pets etc ...
I'm sure you'll start coming up with further ideas in time. :)

Try to make your site different from others. This way it will stand out and people will stay on your site for more than a few seconds. Put something on the home page that will catch their eye. Example: color, smooth flowing
menu bar. The key is NOT to have too much info (condensed) in an area. You don't want your eye to hurt from too much visual imagery, text, etc. You get the idea....good luck.
Add some pages about your interests. If you like music then add a page with links to your favorite songs or singers. You can also add a page with your wish list of things that you want.
