ok, whats a tv tuner exactly and how does it work?!?!?

Okay, I somewhat understand what a TV tuner is. I recently purchased an HP dv5000z notebook with windows XP ...the rep from HP said that I have the right XP program to run a TV tuner. But they are selling theirs for $179 and that is somewhat too expensive for me!! But I was searching around at BizRate and I saw that I can get a TV for very low (under $100)...I just wanted to know if that will be compatible with my notebook or not...

    In general, the TV tuner card will fit any laptop with a PCMCIA slot (this slot is standard on almost all laptops). Just make sure that you have a free slot for the card. Also make sure that you laptop meets the minimum requirements in terms of memory, hard drive space and processing speed to work with the card that you want.
