Some email providers ( wrong words) provide you with receipts. They have one in Outlook and in AOL you they have a box where you check at the end if you want to be notified when it's opened. All of them don't though. I haven't figured it out for msn yet.
Try the help button when you go into your email and type in return receipt or delivery confirmations.

I don't think you can.Alot of the email servers have a automatic response,if you send something and it doesn't get through,or to that person,then it gives you the automatic response.I think it says something like, "Mail returned" and then in the message it tells you it wasn't delivered.

Embed a link to an image in the email that points to a free web page counter. Whenever the image is loaded the counter will increment
