Is there some sort of program that will keep my computer from going idle and make it appear that I am still using it even while I am away?

GigAlarm
This is a program that you can tell to play a song, a file, or almost anything else. You can specify times and also have it repeat. (like play a song, open a web browser every five minutes, if you want)

Hope this helps you! :)

Play any audio or video file and select the option to repeat it automatically.

You can schedule cron jobs in Linux, at commands in NT based windoze systems like NT and XP. By running automated tasks, such as sending emails that you pre-wrote you can appear to be at your desk. Though if somebody walks in and KNOWS your not there but has an email from you they will be madder than if your just not at your desk.
