Go to start > Run > "msconfig" Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the files you don't want to start on startup. This should free up your CPU somewhat.

click on start/ run type in the box msconfig then hit enter : then click on the startup tab see what is tick there and on the services tab also if you un- tick what you dont want to have load up with windows starts up then click on apply & ok then your have to restart the pc your cpu usage should be at 0 / 2 % not 100% do a anti spyware scan / anti virus scan spy doctor http://www.pctools.com ad-aware professional http://www.lavasoft.de/ anti spyware blocker spybot search & destory spyware blaster http://www.download.com ewido anti-spyware 4.0 http://www.grisoft.com/doc/10/lng/us/tpl/tpl01?prd=ews anti spyware firewall<<<<<<<> click here to select a folder then tick the (c) thats your hard drive if you have 2 hard drives tick the 2 of them then click ok then click start when the scan is done click on remove tab

I think these are mainly spywares. there are some anti-spyware programs which show you what are the programs launching on startup (which do not come in startup folder), from that you can choose what all programs need to launch when starting up.

type "msconfig" at start/run then remove anything that you don't like or just reformat your comp

If your PC gets to the desktop within 60 seconds of powerup you're doing OK. When Norton (or any scanning program) runs, it is not uncommon to see 100% spikes. When the computer is doing absolutely nothing the graph should be between 0 & 7%. If the CPU is running 90% of the time at 90-100%, it's not a startup prob. Sound like a BIOS prob - and THAT'S out of my league. Stay tuned for more Answerers.

Check msconfig for solving all these kind of problems... if the problem persists return checking for suspicious tasks (in the task manager)...Although at times checking the task manager can be tricky.. some worms automatically disappear when you run task manager
