If you don't have an image-editing program you can use Powerpoint. Click Insert Menu >> Picture >> From File... Choose the file you want to resize Select the Crop tool from the Picture Toolbar or simply resize the picture by dragging the white circles on the corners. When you've achieved your desired size, right click the image and select Save as Picture... Then Save the Picture as you would normally do. This would dramatically decrease the size of a photo.

Open Irfan View --> Goto Image menu... --> Select Resize/Resample image. or alternatively open the image which you want to change in Irfan View and press Ctrl. + R this will open a dialog box where you can resize the image by mentioning its new size. Once done save the image and view its size. This should be less then 600K in your case. Note: Please keep the check box (Preserve aspect Ratio)checked... for proper reduction in size.

Open the image in Irfanview. Click the Image menu, then Resize/Resample. Click the Half button in the upper right and save your file. Now check the file size - is it less than 600K? If not, repeat the steps above.

Either crop them in the photoeditor program, or get the Downsize program.

If you mean that you do not know how to resize an image, check out the application found at the link below, called Photogadget. You install it, and it adds options to your right-click menu when you click on an image file (in stead of left-clicking to select the file as normal, use the right mouse button and click on an image file). It presents with a one-click way of resizing your image to a more web-friendly filesize, such as 640x480 pixels, which should also decrease the filesize well below 600k. Hope it helps!

open the picture in photoshop, and save it again as JPEG, and select the quality level according to what size you want the picture to be.
