For an online Java tutorial, check out this from the people who created it in the first place:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
Or also available online are:
http://www.freewarejava.com
http://www.javaboutique.internet.com
http://www.brainjar.com
For paper versions, try Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk (depending on your location..... US or UK, etc).. just type "java" in the searchbox.
If you're an absolute beginner at java programming I'd suggest these two:
"Beginning Programming with Java for Dummies by Barry Burd and Barry Burd (Paperback - April 1, 2003)"
+
"Java Programming for the Absolute Beginner (For the Absolute Beginner (Series).) by Joseph P. Russell (Paperback - Aug 1, 2002)"

http://www.amazon.com has been a great source of technical books for me. Just look up "Beginning Java" and read the reviews until you find one you think you'll like.
