You need to register the name of your website and have someplace to host it. Godaddy ( http://www.godaddy.com ) is a popular domain registration site, and charges something like $9 for a year's registration of a .com. There are tons of places that will host your site, most costing between $5 and $20 a month for a not-too-popular site. I prefer Canaca ( http://www.canaca.com ), but there are better deals out there. Keep in mind, the more visitors you have (specifically, the more bandwidth they use), though, the more you'll have to pay.

If you are going to have a .com, .net, .biz, .org, the answer is yes. You will have to pay for two(2) things. Web hosting which you can get at $4.75 /mo or thereabouts. And for the registration of a "domain name." You can get this at: http://www.duoservers.com/?r=cwstelcom You can also get a domain name here for $ 14.00 a year.

If you want people to notice, its best to pay for a good website.

All the above answers are mostly correct with the exception of them not mentioning the option of hosting the site yourself on your own webserver. In this case, you just need a broadband connection and a webserver. So your answer is yes and no. You will still have to register the domain name which costs money. Keep in mind that companies offering free hosting are most likely going to be putting advertising on your website.

Yes and No. Yes: for domain (your site name) & for Hosting (the space you put your host on it in the internet) you must pay money ... No: if you search on the internet, you will find some companies which will host your web site FREE. then if you need more space or some special services you must charge them.
