A device like this is often called a "token." Instead of typing in a password, you plug in a device. Access is controlled by "something you have" instead of "something you know."
Microsoft Windows is designed to use a password, so tokens are not commonly used with Windows. Tokens are commonly used in combination with passwords to authenticate people who are accessing computer networks.

There is a program called pass2go by the makers of RoboForm that stores everything on a usb flash drive. You can then take it to any computer and have it automatically go to the webpage and log you in for anything you save in it.
