I worked on many systems over the years for clients (AS400, Oracle, mySQL, MS SQL, etc) and have never come accross anybody that uses Sybase DB. Not saying it is a bad system, just not very widely used from my experience. If you are interested in getting into DB programming I would recommend starting out with mySQL which is free and the majority of the syntax can be applied other DBs very easily. I personally like MS SQL the best but it costs quite a bit you want all the nice visual tools that the non-free version has. Was there a particular reason why you were interested in Sybase or did you just want to get into DBs in general?
