Why does Adobe Photoshop quit unexpectedly in Mac OS X?

I am a HUGE computer geek. But, this one thing has me stumped. This question is for Macintosh programmers only. I have installed the Adobe Creative Suite 2 on my MacBook Pro. Upon launching the program, I get this error: 2006-08-01 17:50:57 -0400 EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 0xb8000000 + 527431 1 0xb8000000 + 504086 2 0xb8000000 + 586874 3 spin_lock_wrapper + 2511 I tried reinstalling Mac OS X, but it still does the same thing. It worked before and I don't know what I could have done to make it not work. All of the other Adobe applications work well. It might haves something to do with the Rosetta translation, but it worked before so I don't know what is wrong. Please help me! Photoshop is VERY important to me! And please, no answers like, "It's a Mac. They suck. You should get a PC." I WILL NEVER SWITCH TO A PC!

Sorry, I'm not a programmer but I do have some experience with MAC's. This may sound out of left field, but you may have a memory (hardware) problem. What you also might try is running cocktail with everything selected (repair permissions, etc.) Also, someone said something about plugins - maybe try starting with all extensions disabled? ...Just tryin' to help.

YESSSS i finally found another mac user on here!!! okay so the first thing that came into mind about your problem is that Adobe Photoshop may need to be updated, Safari on my Mac used to do the same thing and as soon as i got it updated it appeared to fix itself

Photoshop is a resource hog and Macs aren't very good computers. You may have too much stuff running at once or it may just too hot in the room with the computer. If the room has been too hot too often (vents and fans in the computer that are clogged with dust can do this even a cool room), the computer, and/or parts of it may be permently damaged. I'm no fan of MS but get your sef a windows machine. They are more easily tailored to the job you use them for and you can go to the store and get parts for them when things fail. You usually can't do that with a Mac. You should be a little more open minded, this is about getting a job done. A garbage man wouldn't drive a cement truck because it looks cool would he? No, He would drive a GARBAGE Truck because it's made for the job. Macs are made for people who don't know how to use computers and if you're going to work on a computer . . . I've worked (administered, operated and repaired), on both at a few different companies and as much as I hate MS (micrsoft), I still have to say they are better for work and /or play than Macs any day. The link below addresses your specific error (I'm afraid it kinda looks like the end of your Mac) Also I heard sometimes that If you are using a "cracked" copy of Photoshop that it can cause this error and that sometimes it could be some poorly written PS plugins. But if you haven't recently installed a cracked copy of PS or a Ps plug-in that your Mac is probably just dying slowly - Back up your data (in a non-Mac format) today before it's too late!
