Because we can and we like the power over you.

Usually, because they are paid to. (in the case of spyware) However, most viruses are written by adolescents. These young kids always want a coding challenge, and since our school system is not set up to accommodate the little hackers, they become black-hats. It really is sad. We need better middle-school computer education in this country.

Well, most don't. There are a lot of viruses written by adolescents of all ages that usually don't even work, let alone work as intended. These are often ill-conceived and poorly executed attempts that have simple coding errors that make the virus fail to spread, fail to do its dastardly deed or maybe just make it so obvious that it takes little to no effort to clean it from files. Other viruses are written by crackers as an attempt to gain information, hold data for ransom or steal identities. Still others are probably initiated by terrorist organizations and governments that are simply playing by the "new rules". Spyware is often bought by, if not written for / by large corporations that are trying to get better demographics on the visitors to their sites. Through all this you have to remember one thing, the same invention(s) that make mankind's existence better are often the same ones that will lead to weapons beyond your imagination for the next war.

depends on your definition of expert lol.... expert.. i consider to be a professional. professionals don't do stupid stuff like that if they are truely professional. I do have to admit though.... some of the virus makers are genuses! lol It's just a stupid thing to do.... they do it probably just to see if it can be done.

It is a misguided form of power. And their knowledge could be put to such good use.

Some do it to STEAL from you. Some do it to GET you back to their websites. Some do it to learn more about the demographics of their customer base. Some do it, because it appears legal. Some do it, because they CAN. I simply wouldn't. It is unethical, illegal and immoral. I would rather help people.

They do not. The majority of viruses are created by governments who dislike the US. Last year Time Magazine had an article about how the US hired a civilian to track hackers who plant viruses and found out that every single virus he was assigned to trace was sendind info back to a single server in china, then to another server, and then finally to another server. The civilian said it was highly likely that the chinese governement was behind it because the server had at least 60 users dedicated to hacking. The majority of spyware is created from india and russia in an attempt for private citizens to steal identities of other privte citizens.
