Dreamweaver 8. Academic Version.?

2006-07-31 00:39:07, Category: Programming & Design
I've seen this version on some sites, and it's cheaper. However, I am not an sutdent. So, can I still buy it and use it for personal or/and commercial purposes? Why? Why not? THNX

Certified vendors should ask you to show your student id before selling you the academic version. Some students (or other more sinister organizations) however sell those academic versions online for a profit and it will install normally as all you need is a product key. It does say "Academic" or something when the product launches though but they are identical for all practical purposes. You are not supposed to use Dreamweaver's (or any software from any company's) academic version for commercial purposes (where you earn money by being a for-profit business, etc.). I think it even says so on "Use Agreement". Adobe may never know how you use it unless you call them for support and you tell them, but using academic version for commercial pursposes could be considered illegal (not a lawyer so cannot tell you) and have no clue what the consequences would be if you were caught. I would think the responsibility would land on the seller in that case because you could pretend that you didn't know what you were ordering. If you have an established business (you have a business id number thing from your state) or buying it for your employer, or plan to buy several licenses to accomodate several developers, I would definitely get the commercial version as Adobe can go after businesses more easily than one single user. Also, you can write off Dreamweaver as your business expense (not sure about this so don't hold me to it). If, however, you are the only one who is ever going to use Dreamweaver and not use it for large-scale projects, I think you will be okay. Hope that helps. By the way, I know that the two versions are the same in terms of functionality. This because I learned Dreamweaver with an education version at my college and we created a pretty cool test website as a class project on it. Now I work professionally as a dreamweaver developer.
