I need to change the color of just one object in a picture. How do I do this. I'm working with the clouds, I want to change just the color of the clouds but not the sky, and I don't want to paint over the clouds. How can I just change the color of the clouds?
you need to make layers of clouds and the sky separately, mask the sky and select the clouds layers and change the color.
Actually, layers never existed till version 3.
You'll need to create a new mask in your Channels paltte and use brush tools to paint the shapes of the clouds. Then return to the main composite RGB or CMYK channel, load a selection using your mask as the source and then apply some color adjustment sliders (like Hue/Saturation/Colorize) or manipulate curves to change the coloring of the areas you selected in your mask.
Make sure to save different color versions in separate files because you only have one level of undo and no History palette. And once you apply the color change, there's no going back.
Good luck.

If it is a one layer photo... try to draw a mask over the clouds and make a copy of them... then in a different layer... paste the clouds and change the colors by paint them the airbrush or equalize them.
It is actually a little complicated... play around a little with it!

seriously, you have to get a newer version. There is SO much more to play with. Without getting too tech. on you. How about creating a selection arund the area. then adjust-hue/saturation. I'm sorry. There are so many ways to
do what you want. It really depends on your level of familiarity with the program. ..And if you love it that much... you HAVE to get a new version.
