How To Establish Fear In Computer Games, Like In Silent Hill, Siren, Condemned And Other Horror Game

I would say maybe, keep thinking the characters will pop out of the closet or eat you alive? I don't know. Personally Some of Scary Movie three scared the living shit out of me, and the ring still haunts me. Lol. I can admit, im already scared.
You really have to study the whole psychology of human nature if you truly want to know what it is that will make people feel so perturbed.

The thing with most of those games is that they all have a certain atmosphere, or mood, if you will in which the user feels entrapped.

The person playing the game must actually feel like they are trapped in a certain dimension in which they are the character doing whatever the tasks in your games are.

As for the rest, it's pretty simple, music, ambient noises, lighting, textures, graphics, they all should be pretty consistent with one theme.

I say you read up a bit on human psychology, philosophy and take those games that inspire you and learn as much as you can about how they made them so insanely frightening.

There's plenty of information out there on Silent Hill for you. (I would know, I'm a huge fan of the series / movie.)

Anyway, read up on that game and everything I told you about, I just pretty much tried to lead you into the general direction.

Good luck.
Random events and a great soundtrack & sound effects. Look at America McGee's Alice! Great soundtrack.
